Montessori Author Trevor Eissler Speaks at Montessori School

International speaker and Montessori author Trevor Eissler gave an inspiring and dynamic presentation to parents, teachers and other community members at The Montessori School on Tuesday, September 27.

The main theme of Mr. Eissler’s presentation was about the ownership that Montessori students have for their own learning.  He spoke of how Montessori’s unique environment encourages students to generate new ideas and offers them support of a whole community while giving them the freedom to learn things for themselves and to develop skills for life.

Mr. Eissler also related the Montessori philosophy of learning to the philosophy that is now implemented in pilot flight school training.  Among those similarities are:
•  Begin where the student is… the curriculum follows the student.
•  Take as long as necessary to learn each concept
•  Learning through experience fosters “real” learning.
•  The student should not be punished for making mistakes, as they are part of the learning process.

Mr. Eissler is the author of “Montessori Madness!” which explores how Montessori education prepares children for the real world.  An international speaker, business jet pilot and father of three Montessori students, Mr. Eissler has also collaborated with publisher June Books on a series of children’s books, the first of which is to be released this fall.
