Head of School Search Committee

The Board of Trustees of The Montessori School has created a committee to search for and nominate a candidate to become the next Head of School.  I am pleased to introduce the Search Committee members, share our plans and schedule for the search, and invite you into the process.

The Board concluded that the assistance of a professional search firm was necessary.  Firms with relevant experience were considered and interviewed, and the firm of Education Access Strategies, LLC (EAS), of Bethesda was selected.  Dr. Richard Jung of EAS will lead the search and ensure that it meets the highest professional standards.  Dr. Jung has considerable experience in school and other nonprofit head and executive searches; and he will provide comprehensive support for Montessori through the data gathering, development of school and position profiles, advertising, recruitment, interviewing, reference checking, compensation package development, and transition phases of the search.

Dr. Jung will visit the school to experience first-hand our special school culture and to conduct interviews with key leaders and constituencies at the school.  Every attempt will be made to keep the school community informed of developments in this search.

The Search Committee will review candidates’ materials gathered by the consultants. In early 2012, the Search Committee will conduct semi-finalist interviews at the school.  Semi-finalists will also have an opportunity to speak with administrators, teachers, parents, and students.  Throughout this period we will adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality to protect the interests of potential candidates.  Finalist interviews, also to be held at the school over a two-to-three day period, and a visit to the current schools of the finalists will provide an opportunity for assessing the fit of each candidate with our school.

The Search Committee members ask for your advice and support as we embark on this very important work.   The resulting information from the survey that was done in November will be made available to the Search Committee, our search consultants, and the Board of Trustees as we begin to identify our next school leader.

We are mindful of the significance of this school in our lives and community and that we must find an exemplary leader.  I pledge our best efforts to that task.
